Shane Harper is most known as Disney Channel actor on the show Good Luck Charlie. Blast from the past: Adele - 21

It's been a year since Adele's 21 album was released, and what a successful year it's been for her and the album. Named after the singer's age (at time of production), 21 sold 208,000 copies in it's first week in the UK and made made #1 in 18 countries. It also made #1 on numerous music charts, such as US Billboard 200, UK Albums Chart, Canadian Albums Chart, French Albums Chart, German Albums Chart and many more.

The album gave Adele success after success with hit singles like "Rolling in the Deep," "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain," all of which made #1 and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The album received Grammy nominations for Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year, and won an American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Album.

Though Adele had a rough patch last year with having to cancel her tours to recover from a vocal cord hemorrhage, one bright spot was becoming the first artist in Nielsen SoundScan history to have the year's #1 album, along with #1 single with "Rolling in the Deep" and #1 music video. She also became the first artist to sell more than 3 million copies of an album in a year in the UK.

Now, Adele is on a break, still recovering from vocal surgery, but will soon start work on her third album. But only time will tell if she can top the success of 21.

Album Review: Jack And White - Winter EP

Today, songwriting duo Jack And White released their second EP titled Winter. And just like their first EP, this new 5-song album definitely does not disappoint. From the intriguing and random song titles to the catchy beats to the clever and inspirational lyrics, Jack And White can do no wrong.

"Night After Night" takes you through heartbreak with that known Jack And White beat. The witty lyrics and spooky chorus about ghosts and haunting hearts make for a great opening song. "XYZ" gives you a little bit of a country feel and ends with a little bit of rock 'n roll as Brooke and Jack explain life. Then the duo takes it down a bit in the ballad "Voices," with a yearning melody and longing lyrics describing what I believe is about winter.

But my favorite song on the EP would have to be "Bright Side of the Bad News." This upbeat song has the two asking, "where would I be without you by my side?" This song is fun and can relate to anyone who has an essential person in their life that you don't know what you'd do without. You by my side, In a free fall, In a landslide, You're the first call, On the bright side of the bad news, You're the sure line of my dark blues, the two sing. Simple, yet such meaningful lyrics in this edgy yet deep song.

The EP also includes a live version of their song "Telephone Games" off of their first EP Gemini. In sum, half of the EP gives you a winter feel while the other half gives you that same, joyful Jack And White sound. The way Brooke can go from happy and positive to sad and longing in this mix of songs is incredible, and the songwriting and musical talents that Jack brings make the entire duo what they are: good by themselves, but even better together. This is another great album from Jack And White and I can't wait for the next!

Song Review: James Durbin - Love Me Bad

Why is it that American Idol's great rockers always come in 4th? Chris Daughtry, Allison Iraheta and most recently James Durbin of Season 10. Despite his elimination, James seems to be one of the most popular Idols to come out of last season, and kicked off his solo career with his first single "Love Me Bad."

Off of his debut album Memories Of A Beautiful Disaster, "Love Me Bad" has James Durbin wanting love in this rock ballad. Photos scattered across my wall, Maybe someday I’ll take them off, But I miss you, Yeah I still miss you, James sings, his longing voice adding emotion to these clever lyrics. When the song gets to the chorus, James shows off his strong, rockstar voice as he begs and repeats to "love him bad." This heartbreak rock song shows off everything you love about James and is the perfect debut single.

Elliott Yamin's new music video + new album deets

Check out Elliott Yamin's music video for his new single "3 Words" below:

Elliott is set to release his new album Let's Get To What's Real on March 27. "This new album is all of me: my heart, mind, and soul. I feel like for the first time, I’ve been able to make a record that personifies who I am as an artist and where I’m going creatively." Yamin says in a press release.

Interview with Preston Powis

Preston Powis is an up and coming singer-songwriter from Utah. After releasing his debut single "Let Me In" last summer, Preston let me in during this interview where we discuss his music, his new single "Mean What You Say" and what it's like being a part of a talented list of Utahn artists that came before him.

At what age did you begin singing?
I've been singing my whole life in some form or another. I would always sing along to the radio growing up, and as I got older I joined choir for a musical outlet. It wasn't until I was 18 that anyone really heard me sing. I auditioned for a solo song backed by the choir, Manhattan Transfer's "Operator". That was the first time my family and friends had ever heard me perform, and the pivotal moment I decided I wanted to be a
                                                                        music artist.

How would you describe your musical style?
I would say my music is within the Pop genre. Pop-Rock would be an exact label. "Let Me In" is a Pop-Rock ballad, orchestral infusion. Ever since I was a little boy I was completely taken by film scores and dreamed one day I would be a film composer. I've been fortunate to realize that dream in a way by infusing those sounds into Pop. I'm looking forward to introducing different facets of my style with upcoming projects. Music for me (along with the writing process) is an evolution, and my goal as an artist is to bring people along for the ride. I want my music to be experiential and for it to transport the listener.

David Archuleta co-wrote your debut single “Let Me In,” how do you two know each other?
David and I have the same vocal coach, Dean Kaelin. It was through that relationship I was able to write "Let Me In." Dean was the one who first encouraged me to write, and I'm fortunate to work with him.

Who are some of your musical influences?
My musical influences run the gamut, from Mozart, to Glen Miller, to Nat King Cole, to Katy Perry. I admire so many artists, but I would say I'm most inspired by the risk takers. The artists who put their whole world out on a plate, lyrically and emotionally, and let you as the listener look into it and relate to their stories.

The Osmonds, David Archuleta, Benton Paul, you’re among some very talented Utahn musicians, there must be something in the mountains there. How does it feel to be amid such great artists?
Didn't you know Utahns drink a glass of excellence every morning? (I'm kidding) :) Thank you, it's an honor to be listed alongside those great artists. It's great to see people following their passion, and they in turn inspire others to do the same. They're great, talented people doing what makes them happy, that's really the best example.

You have a new single in the works, could you tell us about it?
I'm very excited about my new single. I've been in the studio working on it and it's nearly finished. This song is one that's very special to me. It was sparked from a conversation I had and it took shape almost instantly. This single will have familiar elements to the last song, but it has a unique identity. It's simple, reduced and focuses on the story and emotion. It's called "Mean What You Say," release details will be announced soon.

How has your life changed in the last year?
The past year has been one of the most challenging and exciting years of my life. It's been amazing to be able to release my music and to engage myself in creative ventures. I think the most noticeable and rewarding change is the connections I've made. I receive emails and messages from people all over the world saying my music means something to them. That's why I do what I do. It's such an exciting thing to get a letter from a girl in France saying how "Let Me In" is her favorite song. Or a message from a kid in ROTC saying he wants to do music and my music video inspired him to join choir. Or something as simple as a girl in Indonesia telling me I look cute in glasses. Those connections are the change I most notice and appreciate.

What are your plans for the future?
My plan for the future is simply to continue to create. I want to make music and have people relate to it and draw a connection to their own experience. I want to show other aspects of my art I feel are all encompassing, whether it be in music, design or visual art. I plan to work hard doing what I love and enjoying every minute of it.

Where can people keep up with you? Website, Facebook, Twitter?
You can find me on Facebook, PRESTONPOWIS.COM is under construction and arriving soon. You can also follow my Twitter account: @PrestonPowis.

Do you have a message to all of your fans?
Thank you! Thank you for listening and connecting to the music and for telling others and myself about it. You guys really are the reason I can do what I do. Thank you for the support and encouragement, the messages and tweets! Keep in touch, tell me what's going on in your lives. If I had any advice it would be: Live doing what you love, and what makes you happiest.

Thanks to Preston for the great interview and I look forward to the new single and upcoming album! And lastly, he does look awfully cute in glasses! ;)

Top 10 American Idols throughout 10 Seasons

With American Idol Season 11 beginning tonight, I thought it was only fitting to take a look back at the past 10 seasons, and name the best Idol contestant from each year.

Season 1: Kelly Clarkson
Who else would it be, right? Kelly wowed everyone from the very beginning, proving she was in it to win it each week of the brand new reality show back in 2001. Pairing off against Justin Guarini in the end, Kelly was named the winner, and the first American Idol. Now, with four albums, two Grammy Awards and hits in pop, rock and country, though Kelly has stemmed away from the show, she still holds the true Idol title.

Season 2 - Clay Aiken
Clay Aiken was the smooth crooner on his season, who in the end competed against Ruben Studdard in Idol's first of three guy vs. guy finales. Though Studdard took the crown in the end, it was no doubt Clay would go far, releasing a total of seven albums including a Christmas alum and a Best of Clay Aiken compilation CD. Now, Clay and his Claymates are still going strong, making him the best and most popular contestant of Season 2.

Season 3 - Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer Hudson was the one who left too soon, being by far the most talented singer of her season, yet went home at 7th place?? JHud took the elimination in stride and came back strong when she released two albums and made her Broadway debut in Dreamgirls, and later making her film debut in the Sex in the City movie. Today, Jennifer is one of the best known Idols and one of the most popular singers around.

Season 4 - Carrie Underwood
It was obvious from the beginning of Season 4 that Carrie Underwood would top them all. After winning her season, the pop/country diva went on to release three albums, chart topping singles and winning a total of 10 Country Music Awards and five Grammy Awards. Now, Carrie is one of the most popular country stars in the business and by far one of the most popular American Idol winners.

Season 5 - Chris Daughtry
Chris Daughtry was one of the many Idols who went home too soon despite their great talent. The rockstar went home in fourth place, which inspired his first single "Home," which made #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in 2007. Since then, Chris and his band Daughtry have released three albums and numerous hit singles. Daughtry proved to be the best of his season and one of the best Idol contestants the show has had.

Season 6 - Jordin Sparks
Though she was denied at her first audition, Jordin didn't give up, auditioned again, and ended up winning the sixth season of American Idol at just 17 years old, the youngest winner during her time. After her season, Jordin went on to tour with artists like Alicia Keys, the Jonas Brothers and NKOTBSB, releasing two hit albums and being nominated for a Grammy for her "No Air" duet with R&B singer Chris Brown. Now, Jordin will be making her film debut, starring alongside Whitney Houston in the upcoming movie Sparkle, in theaters this August. Jordin was by far the best performer on her season and definitely deserved to take home the crown.

Season 7 - David Archuleta
David Archuleta auditioned for the seventh season of American Idol at just 16 years old, and became the youngest runner-up in his time at 17. Competing on one of the most popular and talented seasons, later to be up against David Cook in one of the most watched season finales, Archuleta won the hearts of everyone, ranging from teens, young adults, moms and grandmas with his stunning version of John Lennon's "Imagine." Now at the age of 21 with three albums and a best selling book, David will be making his first full-on acting debut, starring in Nandito Ako, a Filipino mini series, airing in February. Though he has a strong career and much more up ahead, David announced last month that he plans to take a two-year hiatus to go on an LDS mission for his church. David was, and still is, one of the most popular, most remembered and most talented singers that ever graced the Idol stage, and was definitely the best of his season.

Season 8 - Kris Allen
After a battle against Adam Lambert, Kris Allen came on top in the end of American Idol's eighth season. Soon after, Kris' single "Live Like We're Dying" became popular quick, making it to #18 on the Billboard 200. Later, he released his self-titled debut album and toured with numarous artists such as Keith Urban, Maroon 5, The Barenaked Ladies and Lifehouse. Kris is currently working on his second album, and has proved in the last three years that he was the most talented singer of his season.

Season 9 - Crystal Bowersox
After a long struggle on the reality show, Crystal Bowersox became the runner up to Lee DeWyze on the ninth season of the show. Since then, Bowersox has released her debut album Farmer's Daughter. One of Idol's duller seasons, though Crystal came out on top from it, and today is probably the most remembered contestant of Season 9.

Season 10 - Scotty McCreery
At just 17 years old Scotty McCreery won the tenth season of American Idol, and proved why every week with his delightful, country voice. After touring with his fellow Idol contestants, Scotty released his debut album Clear As Day, which made #1 on the Billboard 200. The album broke records, being the first debut from an American Idol since Kelly Clarkson's Thankful album to reach #1 on the Billboard 200. The album was just recently certified platinum after only 3 months of it's release. Not even a year since his Idol debut, and Scotty has proved that he was the best of his season.

Be sure to tune in to American Idol tonight at 8pm EST on FOX!

Song Review: Victoria Justice - You're The Reason (Acoustic)

Aside from Big Time Rush, I don't usually post about Disney Channel or Nickelodeon-spawned artists. But that was before I heard Victoria Justice's acoustic version of her song "You're The Reason." Off of the Victorious soundtrack, this acoustic version is so much better than the original over-auto-tuned, upbeat version. The song starts off with a slow, piano medley as Victoria shows how great her vocals really are, compared to her other enhanced songs. This version of the song is sweet and simple, and sounds of what Sara Bareilles would make a hit. Quite frankly, this song is just all around better as a ballad.

This song is definitely worth the listen!

David Archuleta to star in Filipino soap opera Nandito Ako

David with co-stars Jasmine Curtis Smith and Eula Caballero.
It was previously announced that David Archuleta would be starring in a Filipino soap opera with actresses Jasmine Curtis Smith and Eula Caballero. David arrived in Manila yesterday to a large group of fans greeting him at the airport, then was off to a press conference to sign his contract with TV5.

During the press conference, it was announced that the mini series will be called Nandito Ako, a popular song that David will be singing in Tagalog. David also revealed that he'll be playing Josh, who was separated from his mother at 5 years old due to a hotel fire. During the fire, he rescued a young girl (played by Jasmine or Eula).

David also discussed his plans to go on a two-year LDS mission soon, saying that this will be one of the last projects he does before heading off. David spilled that once he returns from the Philippines, he'll be recording as much music as he can to release while he's away. "Two years goes by fast.. I mean, it's been four years since American Idol." says David. Though he knows he'll have to make sacrifices, he'll definitely be continuing music when he returns. "Music is what I love to do, it's what I plan to do for the rest of my life."

David will begin the two week filming process tomorrow, and the five-week long show will be airing on TV5 in late February.

Song Review: Jon McLaughlin ft. Sara Bareilles - Summer Is Over

With the upcoming release of his new album Promising Promises, Jon McLaughlin has released a new single. "Summer is Over" is a pop rock duet with pop singer Sara Bareilles, which is the perfect duo as these two have the same sound and the same yearning lyrics in their soulful songs. This new love song describes how they were free and in love throughout the summer, but now, summer is over. The clever lyrics and longing in their voices makes for a great song that is sure to be hit.

"Summer Is Over" is available on iTunes now!

Song of the Night: David Archuleta - Elevator

Off a his sophomore album The Other Side of Down, the song of the night, a song that's been stuck in my head all day, is David Archuleta's "Elevator." Written in 30 minutes about a dream he had, I feel like this song never got the recognition it deserved back in 2010 when it was released.

The simplicity and realness that this song carries makes it enjoyable, while the inspiring lyrics and cute tune make the song so inspiring and so 'David'. Some people may see this song as just a song about an elevator going up and down, but if you really pay attention to the lyrics, you'll realize that the song is about life. There's ups and downs, but it's the butterflies that keep you feeling alive.

This song is clever and fun, and is, in my opinion, the hidden gem of David's album. You can watch David perform the song live for Z100 below:

One Direction involved in minor car crash

A few nights ago after their show in Birmingham, Niall, Harry, Louis, Zayn and Liam of the UK boy band One Direction were headed to Plymouth for their next show, when a car came crashing into the band's tour bus. Paramedics arrived at the scene and treated three of the boys for neck injuries, advising them to cancel their next show. But the boys persisted on playing their show, not wanting to let their Directioners down.

Last night the boys played a 90-minute set at their show in Plymouth, and Niall later tweeted,  "Guys, thanks for all you messages. We were involved in a really minor accident - we are all absolutely fine!"

Album Review: David Hernandez - I Am Who I Am

It's been four years since American Idol Season 7, and I am very excited for this new release from Top 12 contestant David Hernandez. David had a great run on American Idol, and was, in my opinion, one of the best singers that season who left too soon. But now David is back and better than ever with his debut EP I Am Who I Am. This pop/R&B EP showcases David's stunning vocals, as his voice soars through these new, original songs, seven of which David penned himself. The first half of the EP has the same longing theme and R&B feel, something David has been best at since his days on Idol. While the last half has a more fun, pop vibe to them, especially the cute "She's Come Undone."

My favorite song would have to be the title track "I Am Who I Am," where David describes why he is who he is. The honest lyrics and emotion in Henrandez's voice makes the song even more inspiring.

This EP is exactly everything I love about David, it is who he is! The only bad thing is that it's only eight songs! But not to worry, because this new EP is only a preview of David's music while he works on his full album, currently in the works, and I definitely look forward to it!
