Interview with Cady Groves

Cady Groves got her big break when she was signed by RCA Records and toured with numerous artists on the Bamboozle Road Show. After months in the studio recording new music, Cady is about to release her debut EP This Little Girl on Tuesday, just a week before she heads off on tour opening for Hot Chelle Rae on their Beautiful Freaks Tour. I got the chance to ask an excited and inspirational Cady a little bit about her new music and touring with HCR.

1. You're about to release your first EP This Little Girl, how excited are you?

Heck yes I am excited!!! All I do is whine about wantin' to release new music!!!

2. Is there a theme to this new EP?
A prequel to my album. A crazy girl who thinks with all her heart and a piece of her mind.

3. What inspires you to write a song?
People hurt you and you hurt people. We love hard and live harder.

4. Do you have a favorite song from your new EP?
Well the one that is going to throw people completely for a loop. It's called "Ugly" and it is such a punk rock nugget anthem!!

5. Starting later next month you'll be touring with your label mates Hot Chelle Rae, are you excited?
Duh!!! Those are my boys!! So much love for 'em...

6. I bet you and Hot Chelle Rae would make a good collaboration, any chance of a duet while on tour?
I guess we will have to see!!!

7. What do you think of the fan reaction so far? Did you expect any of this?
I hoped for this my whole life. Not the "coolness" factor - cause I could care less about that. But being a voice for people.. so cool.

8. What's on the pipeline for you? Is there a full length album in the works?
It's done and coming super soon!!!

9. Where can people keep up with you? Website, Twitter, Facebook?
My twitter is ridiculously inappropriate. It's @cadygroves ..but don't say I never warned ya..

10. Do you have a message for all of your fans and supporters?
Please don't try to be anything but what you actually are. Don't take a single second for granted. Take your hits. Try not to hurt people if you can help it. And hey.. make a story of your life. Write things down.

Thanks to Cady for the great interview, looking forward to the new music, and be sure to catch her on tour for the next few months with Hot Chelle Rae!

Top 10 Albums of 2011

From debuts to come backs to re-leases, 2011 was full of hot albums from pop, rock, American Idols and even soap opera stars. Here are my Top 10 album picks of the year.

10. Scotty McCreery - Clear As Day
The latest American Idol winner Scotty McCreery released his debut album Clear As Day last month, selling 197,000 copies in it's first week. The country singer became the second American Idol winner to reach #1 on the Billboard 200 with a debut album, and if you've heard it, you know why. With hit songs like "I Love You This Big" and "The Trouble with Girls," Scotty shows off his stunning voice in these sweet, country songs.

9. Port Chuck - Port Chuck
General Hospital based band Port Chuck released their self-titled, debut album this past April, featuring pop and rock covers. Between the fast-paced "No One Like You" and Scott Reeves' slow "Hallelujah," which was featured on the soap, this album showcases the guys' unique voices, as well as their personalities.

8. David Cook - This Loud Morning
After a lot of waiting and anticipation, David Cook released his sophomore album this past June, titled This Loud Morning. This time around, Cook has a more mature and distinct sound with songs like rock single "The Last Goodbye" and the soft "Fade Into Me." Better than his debut, this new album does not disappoint.

7. Enation - My Ancient Rebellion
General Hospital star Jonathan Jackson and his Indie rock band Enation released their latest album My Ancient Rebellion a few months ago, on the same day they were honored by About.Me.com and featured on a billboard in New York City. With songs like their single "The Rushing Wind" and "Tears of Hope," this album is soulful and artistic, just like Enation.

6. Kelly Clarkson - Stronger
Kelly Clarkson came back stronger than ever on her newest album, featuring powerful anthems like her single "Mr. Know It All" and the title track "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)," as well as soft ballads like "Breaking Your Own Heart" and "Standing In Front of You." This is one of the best and strongest albums of 2011.

5. Hot Chelle Rae - Whatever
I never thought twice about Hot Chelle Rae until I saw them live in concert. Boy bands in the rock genre have never really been my thing, until now. Hot Chelle Rae released their debut album Whatever last month, and prove that their more than just a rock 'n roll boy band. Between their upbeat, hit singles "Tonight Tonight" and "I Like It Like That," to showing a sensitive side in songs like "Keep You With Me" and the beautiful ballad "Why Don't You Love Me?" with Demi Lovato, these guys show their uniqueness and creativity in every song.

4. Big Time Rush - Elevate
Big Time Rush's sophomore album Elevate is bigger and better than their first, featuring all new pop and rock songs, eight of which were co-written by the guys themselves. The guys show off their fun side in songs like their single "Music Sounds Better With U" and "Time of Our Life," and a sensitive side in songs like "Invisible" and "Cover Girl." Though the guys are mostly known for their pop rock sound, Kendall, James, Carlos and Logan also show off the balladeer in them in songs like "You Are Not Alone" and "All Over Again." This album is fun and sweet, just like the guys!

3. Jack and White - Gemini
The Brooke White and Jack Matranga collaboration took off with the release of their first EP Gemini. The 6-song EP features their single "Double Trouble," as well as other cheery and upbeat songs, perfect for this one-of-a-kind duo.

2. David Archuleta - The Other Side of Down: Asian Tour Edition
After making the decision to leave his record label this past year, David Archuleta re-released his sophomore album The Other Side of Down in Asia, just in time for his summer tour there. The Asian Tour Edition features four brand new songs from David, along with his hit song "Zero Gravity." David shows a more mature sound on songs like ballad "Everything And More" and the longing, pop song "Wait." This re-release became #1 on CDWow.com, and though he plans to take a two-year break to serve an LDS mission next year, I know there's still a bright future for David in the music industry.

1. Demi Lovato - Unbroken
Demi Lovato made the biggest come back this year after spending months in rehab. Demi came back stronger than ever, musically and personally. Her third studio album Unbroken became #1 on iTunes within hours of it's release. With the hit single "Skyscraper," along with ballads like "Lightweight" and "Give Your Heat A Break" to upbeat songs like the title track "Unbroken" and "Hold Up," this album shows the best of Demi, and I know things are just going to get better from here.

There's my Top 10 albums of the year. Happy New Year!

Album Review: Hot Chelle Rae - Whatever

I became a fan of pop rock band Hot Chelle Rae after seeing their opening set at Big Time Rush's concert last August, and have since become more intrigued by this group. Today they release their second album Whatever, featuring their hit single "Tonight Tonight." This album also features collaborations with the New Boyz on hit "I Like It Like That," Bei Maejor on a funky "Radio" and a beautiful duet with pop singer Demi Lovato on the rock ballad "Why Don't You Love Me?" The guys go from pop rock love songs like "Downtown Girl" and "Forever Unstoppable," to anthems like "Beautiful Freaks" and "Whatever," to taking it down a notch in sweet pop ballads like "Honestly" and "Keep You With Me" on this album. Each song perfectly blends with the next and each holds a message, whether it's for love, inspiration or partying.

This youthful and fun group isn't just your typical rock boy band - they bring a little something different to the table. They have an innocence that overpowers their angst. There's not one bad song as Hot Chelle Rae perfects with their charisma and uniqueness, both musically and with their aspect, on this new album.

We've got the features in place and we're ready to launch it." The guys also revealed that there will be a collaboration with Demi Lovato on the new album, "We just got in a song called "Why Don't You Love Me?" that Demi Lovato's on. We just heard it and she killed it!"

Whatever will be available on November 29th! You can go HERE to read my small review of HRC's set at the Big Time Rush concert in Hampton Beach, NH back in August.

Concert Review: Big Time Rush with Hot Chelle Rae at Hampton Beach

The city was definitely theirs last night at the sold out Big Time Rush show in Hampton, NH! BTR had fans wrapped around the Casino Ballroom at Hampton Beach, waiting outside for hours to get good standing-room-only spots! Ranging from little kids and their parents to teenagers, the place was packed! Everywhere you looked you saw BTR shirts, some official and some homemade saying things like "Mrs James Maslow" and one plastered with Logan!

After a lot of standing and waiting all day, the guys finally came out on stage and the crowd was ecstatic! The entire time the guys were energetic and very connected with the audience, waving and touching hands, and James even threw his shirt to the crowd! The guys danced even more than they do on their show and James and Logan did their famous back flips! Kendall also engaged the crowd by standing up on the tables set up, getting even closer to the audience and Carlos said numerous times how great the crowd was. The guys also made a point to let everyone know about their new album that'll be out soon, the Big Time Rush Movie their filming this fall and Season 3 of their show coming soon!

After performing some of their popular, upbeat songs from their album, the guys took it down a bit and performed an acoustic version of "Stuck" with Kendall on guitar. After they performed a cover of the Beatles' "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and then chose a young girl to serenade "Worldwide" to! They sat her in between Logan and James and after being serenaded by each one and even getting a kiss from Kendall, you could tell the guys had definitely made her night a big night!

After a short break, the guys came back out and performed more of their hits like "Nothing Even Matters" and "Boyfriend" then ended with "The City is Ours" as confetti fell into the audience. Moments after leaving the stage, the crowd cheered and the guys came back out for one final song, their encore of "Halfway There". After the show, fans gathered around their tour bus in hopes to see the guys walk out, and they did not disappoint as each of them walked out, waving and touching some hands.

These guys put on a big time awesome show and it was a great way to end the summer!

One last thing, I must make note of how awesome the opening act Hot Chelle Rae was! I had never heard their music before last night, and I was pleasantly surprised. The lead singer, RK Follese, has a great voice and was also very connected to the crowd, throwing guitar picks and even jumping into the audience! They performed a cover of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" and ended with their popular song "Tonight Tonight", among others, and I must say that after last night I am now a fan!
